Ithaca College takes home some major awards

The summer buzz on campus is centered around all of our recent awards!

We really don’t want to brag but here at Fuse we can’t help but glow over the fantastic awards, nominations, and recognition that we have been receiving here at Ithaca College.

The Ithacan won Best College Newspaper and came in first for General Excellence and Design according to the New York Press Association. They also received the honor of being named the best non-daily newspaper in the Northeast Regional Competition hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

Think SPJ only awarded Ithaca’s print journalism? Think again: ICTV’s Newswatch 16 will take the honors this fall as the National Winner of Best All-Around Television Newscast.

And our radio station isnt too shabby either. The 2010 Guide to the Best 371 Colleges ranked WICB as the #1 station in the nation! News spread today of the newest guide, featuring WICB in the second to top spot, not too bad considering the station also took home the honors of the MTVU Woodie award for best radio station in the fall of 2008.

Parkies arn’t the only ones getting noticed. The Theatre Department is currently ranked in the top ten in the country according to the Princeton Review. With upcoming shows like Chicago and L'Orfeo we predict that the department will only climb higher to the number one spot.

And while we are on the topic, Princeton Review scored Ithaca with a 98 (out of 99) in their "Green Ratings". The score comes from grading on three criteria: a sustainable and health campus, preparation to students for employment and citizenship that copes with environmental concern and the overall commitment to environmental issues. Between our environmentally friendly buildings (we have two LEED certifications for both the Business School and the Peggy Williams Center), our various student clubs committed to sustainability, and practices across all schools that narrow focus to environmentally sound learning, we can see where the almost perfect score comes from.

Finally we also found out this week that the Campus Climate Index named Ithaca College one of the most LGBT-Friendly campuses in the country. The ratings came from Campus Pride, a non-profit organization that works to create safe and friendly communities for college students of all sexual orientations. Ithaca scored 5 out of 5 stars, shining in categories such as LGBT Campus Safety, Counseling & Health, and Student Life.

And just think, all of these mentions have only popped up this summer. So please, humor us while we show a little blue and gold pride!
