Sports Report

Want to know what it feels like to win? Join one of Ithaca’s 26 Division III teams. Of the 22 IC teams that belong to the Empire 8 conference, 15 won regularseason or tournament titles (or both!). Here are some highlights from last year.

From dance and martial arts clubs to Ultimate Frisbee, roller hockey, and ski teams, IC’s sport club offerings now number close to 40. Here’s a look at two of the newest.

After winning the Empire College Wrestling Conference championships, eight Bombers got invitations to the NCAA Division III championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin, more than any school but one.

Finishing first in the Empire 8 at the end of the regular season with a 13-3 conference record, the IC men’s basketball team lost to St. John Fisher in the championship semifinals. But Empire 8 Player of the Year Phil Barera ’11 and 2009–2010 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Sean Rossi ’13, who led the nation in assists for the second year in a row, helped the team to a number-two regional ranking and an invitation to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.

The Ithaca College swimming and diving teams dominated pools all over New York State in one of the Bombers’ most impressive seasons ever, with both men’s and women’s teams placing first in the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association and Empire 8 championships.
