A chance meeting at a Red Cross center with a young couple who’d filmed Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath on a camcorder led two filmmakers to direct and produce Trouble the Water, an Academy Award-nominated documentary which screened to a packed house at Emerson Suites last month.

One weekend every fall, the good folk at the Downtown Ithaca Alliance host the Apple Harvest Festival, or Applefest, turning the Commons into a bustling street fair, complete with craft and food vendors, stage performances, and some more traditional festival touches (most notably, a Ferris wheel and fun slide for kids).
