While competing in the Baltimore Running Festival in 2011, Erin Michael ’05 noticed how few hand cyclists there were in the race. As a physical therapist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Michael helps rehabilitate patients with spinal cord injuries, and it occurred to her during the race that her patients might benefit from participating in it.
Twinkling lights lit the room, and winter-themed decorations adorned the walls. The women were elegant in floor-length dresses, and the men dressed to impress in bow ties and sport coats. But instead of taking a stretch limo to this prom, participants took the shuttle from Longview’s residential living community for seniors.
This was Project Generations’ first senior citizen prom, held at Ithaca College, and the oldest attendee was 95.
