This spring, Dylan Lyons ’14 taught CBS’s Scott Pelley a lesson.
About using Twitter’s live video app, Periscope, that is.
As a digital broadcast associate at CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, Lyons is in charge of all things social media related to the show, including tweeting breaking news updates and live tweeting during the show.
He gets an adrenaline rush, he said, from live tweeting because breaking stories, such as the Boston Marathon bombing trial verdict, have a sense of urgency, but he still needs to prioritize accuracy.
Lyons majored in journalism at Ithaca College and still utilizes many of the skills he gained, such as writing, fact-checking, and maintaining a consistent and professional social media presence.
“I have the ability to craft how the news is distributed to an online audience and engage people in a way that's very different from the broadcast itself,” he said. “I feel like what I'm doing is important, and that’s what makes it satisfying.”
