    flipflops

Flip-flops serve as the ultimate footwear these days. They are comfortable, stylish, and go with nearly anything. They're convenient and best of all, they're cheap!

    But dangerous?

That's right- studies have shows that flip-flops are in fact, hazardous footwear. Check out this video from CBS news!

This is certainly disappointing for many to hear, especially here at Ithaca College, where those foam footies are daily attire (yes, even in the winter for some!) For us at IC and flip-flop wearers around the world, it's all form and no function, according to foot doctors.

And let's not forget the dangers of flip-flops, even beyond your foot health! Experts say driving in loose-fitting summer footwear is dangerous because the sole can easily get caught under the brake, clutch or accelerator pedal. The lack of a heel on a flip-flop can lead to it coming off during gear changes, and that goes for any open back shoe.

So here's some advice- sport those trendy flops at the pool, beach, around the dorm (and DEFINITELY in the shower!) But when it comes to walking around campus, strolling through town, driving, and shopping, you might want to resort to something more comfortable and supportive! Your feet will thank you.

It might not be the freshman fifteen that's making your jeans a little tight -- it could be your valentine. Jenna Bergen '04 is the author of "Your Big Fat Boyfriend: How to Stay Thin When Dating a Diet Disaster." In the book, Bergen pinpoints why women tend to gain weight when they're in a relationship: they let their boyfriends influence their eating habits. She offers tips on how to outsmart the phenomenon. The IC alumna has also written for popular fitness magazines like Men's Health, Women's Health and SELF.

    Emmerson Suites Night of Dreams
    Emmerson Suites Night of Dreams

This past Friday, IC's senior class hosted their annual Black and White Ball. The semi-formal dance is a fund raiser for senior week and the senior class gift. Dress code is, as you might have guessed, black or white. Students came out in their finest duds (and their most uncomfortable shoes) to hit the dance floor in Emerson Suites.
