One of Ithaca's longest running local favorites, The Sutras, released their first album in eight years this weekend. Suffice it to say, they didn't keep us waiting for nothing.
Opening the set with several tunes from their new album, it was apparent that frontman AJ Strauss and the band hadn't been slacking off since the release of 2004's "Thousandaire." Playing layered indie rock tunes with unexpected flourishes (favorite flourish by far, a theremin. Seeing one played well never gets old.) The Sutras cemented their place in the highest echelons of Ithaca hometown favorites. Openers Blow! warmed up the crowd with a complementary set displaying divine pop sensibilities, rounding out the night in the best way. Here's hoping we see The Sutras touring a decent amount in support of "Call out, We'll Find You".
