An idea that was first conceived by six alumni on Ithaca College’s campus seven years ago made it into the pilot of a new TV show they created called The Birthday Boys. The group's original comedy sketch - about a remote-control car named Car-y attempting to cross a traffic-heavy highway on his way to the Land of Pretend - about a made it all the way from ICTV to their series on the Independent Film Channel, where the show premiered this fall.
The Birthday Boys are Jefferson Dutton ’05, Dave Ferguson ’06, Mike Hanford ’05, Tim Kalpakis ’05, Mike Mitchell ’05, Chris Van Artsdale ’05 and Matt Kowalick. They got their start on ICTV with the show 30 Minutes with Dave Ferguson, a weekly comedic news broadcast in the style of The Daily Show.
On choosing Ithaca College, Kalpakis said, “Ithaca was the only school I applied to. Ithaca was where I wanted to be."
