"Observing Climate Change in Nairobi through Anthropologist-Colored Glasses"
This past November, Ithaca College sent Garry Thomas, retired from the anthropology department, and Sean Vormwald, assistant director in the Office of Alumni Relations, to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently, Thomas’s blog, entitled “Observing Climate Change in Nairobi through Anthropologist-Colored Glasses,” is available for viewing.
The blog, which also contains photographs of the experience, extensively details such topics as carbon finance and “carbon colonization,” as well as the process of immersion into the international setting. Thomas, a development anthropologist has previously worked and researched in Tanzania, making this his 15th trip to East Africa. His article, "Generation Kyoto," for Positive News discusses the positive role of youth at the conference.
