    Ask an Expert!

IC faculty are often called to offer expert opinions on current events. Sometimes staff and students are quoted, too. See our list of IC experts, as well as a sampling of media accounts that reference the college or quote members of the college community.

Ithaca College remains a leader in providing students and faculty with access to new media. This year the Roy H. Park School of Communications installed a VideoLink ReadyCam studio.

VideoLink staff members spent nearly a week on campus installing the studio, which is now in use.

The ReadyCam gives Ithaca's own faculty experts the ability to be interviewed live -- via satellite right from the Park School studio -- on national television news stations such as CNN.

Among the many faculty experts available are

    • Michael McCall, professor of marketing, whose topics of expertise include: marketing, consumer psychology, spending habits, credit card debt
    • Kim Gregson, associate professor of television and radio: communications/new media, social media, video games, election campaigns
    • Cynthia Scheibe, associate professor of psychology: developmental psychology, media literacy, decoding media messages
    • Jeff Cohen, associate professor of journalism and director of the Park Center for Independent Media: media censorship/bias, blogs, the Internet
    • Stephen Sweet, assistant professor of sociology: intersections between work, family and community, family conflict, economic inequalities, job insecurity

IC students will also be trained to use the technology.

Ithaca College is one of only about a dozen colleges in the country to have this capability. The equipment in the studio was a gift from alumnus Doug Weisman '78, founder and co-owner of VideoLink.
