Right after receiving a $500,000 grant from HSBC in the Community (USA) Inc. Foundation for our environmental studies program, Ithaca College has received more kudos: IC was awarded two national sustainability awards from the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE.)
Ithaca College’s sustainable efforts have been awarded with an institutional award, while Sarah Brylinsky ‘09 has won the Student Sustainability Leadership Award.
Students in IC's environmental studies program celebrate the HSBC award.
Brylinsky, a communication management and design major, has used her organizational skills to promote sustainability events and environmental awareness on IC’s campus with an eco-events calendar.
Brylinsky was also the first student to receive a Sustainable Curriculum Grant from IC, which she used to create Ithaca’s first communications course on sustainability.
Brylinsky is also the president of IC Feminists, and she's interested in developing a course that combines women’s studies and environmental issues.
The awards will be presented at AASHE’s 2008 conference, “Working Together for Sustainability -- On Campus and Beyond,” in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Congratulations!
