Study abroad in the sunny Caribbean

Whispers can be heard in the Office of International Programs about Ithaca College launching a study abroad program in Antigua and Barbuda.

“It’s still in the planning stages right now,” said Rachel Cullenen, director of study abroad. “But we’re aiming for spring 2009.”

Cullen said the idea to establish an Ithaca center in Antigua was based on the success of the over 30 students who participated in Antigua’s short-term programs over the last two years.  The program would be similar to the Australia Walkabout Program in several ways: it would be a semester long and have a set coursework to include classes about the rich history and culture of the region.  The office is also trying to secure internship locations for students in a variety of interests and majors. Cullenen named possible internships in business, newspapers, film production, and the Humane Society.
