

Rory Kennedy, cofounder and president of Moxie Firecracker Films, is coming to Ithaca January 28 to give a lecture titled “The Camera Doesn’t Lie: Social Change through Documentary Filmmaking” in conjunction with the launch of the Park School’s new Center for Independent Media and a related conference. Passionate about human rights and social justice, Kennedy has addressed a wide range of social concerns in her work, which includes award-winning documentaries such as Street Fight, which garnered an Academy Award nomination for best documentary filmmaking; American Hollow, nominated for a best nonfiction primetime Emmy Award; A Boy’s Life, a previous best documentary winner at the Woodstock Film Festival; and Fire in Our House, which garnered a CINE Golden Eagle, the top prize at the U.S. International Film and Video Festival, and the Silver Apple for the National Education Media Network. Kennedy’s latest documentary, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib, recently aired on HBO.
